How did you learn to cut curly hair?

I am a mix of Korean and African American. Having naturally curly hair was a challenge from childhood. I had to learn to work with my own hair, due do not having access to a stylist, properly trained on curly hair cutting technique.

What's your technique?

I have found that cutting curly hair for precision requires, fully drying and straightening. If a client wears hair curly most of the time, hair is cut wet in order to see exactly how the hair will fall, given the natural curl.

What products do you like best?

I absolutely love the Rene Furterer hair care line. Acanthe is the absolute best in refining natural curl, while still lending some control in frizz.

Any advice for other stylists?

When cutting naturally curly hair, be very clear with your client. Ask how they style hair when at home. Cover all aspects of styling aids. Curly hair can be cut into beautiful styles meant for straight hair, but be cautious, as many clients can't maintain the cut at home.
