How did you learn to cut curly hair?
I watched fellow stylists. Most of them cut it dry, curly AND straight. Then I learned about the Deva technique and went to New York, and was certified through Devachan Salon
What's your technique?
I prefer to have my clients come in with their hair how they usually wear it when it's down. I look at the whole shape first and visualize what I want to see, and then I kind of sculpt the shape into it. I prefer cutting it dry. But sometimes I'll do some dry cutting first, then clean up some ends while wet, then go back and "devacurl" and dry it. I typically will then go and do some more dry cutting after its styled. It just really depends on every individual.
What products do you like best?
I use Devacurl, hands down.
Any advice for other stylists?
To the ones that don't know how to cut dry, it doesn't apply to every client but it can make a huge difference. If you don't know how to do it, i recommend trying it out.
What's the hottest curly trend?
I'm seeing a lot of shorter styles - above the shoulders - as opposed to the longer curly styles.
