How did you learn to cut curly hair?
I learned how to cut curly hair dealing with the clients in my salon that no one else wanted to deal with because they were afraid of the curls. My own hair is a mixture between a 4b/4c curl pattern and have had bad experiences with people cutting it.I learned my own hair, and from my mistakes with own bad hair experiences to become confident in cutting curls.
What's your technique?
It all depends on the texture of the hair. Most of my cuts will be on dry curly hair.I can see where the hair will naturally fall and see how clients will view it everyday. My tools range from clippers, shears and a straight blade razor if im cutting curly hair extensions
What products do you like best?
I love Jane Cartet Solution products, especially her revitalizing leave in conditioner, scalp nourishing serum, and twist and lock. The products have a lot of natural ingredients that help with cleints with sensitive scalp and it helps retain the so needed moisture that curly girls need.Avlon Keracare's natural textures line is also very great too.Im in love with their leave in conditioner, twist and define cream and daily hair milk.
Any advice for other stylists?
Always get to know the client wants and needs to make the service go better.Every clientusually have a custom cocktail we have to use to define their curls.Always take a small section and see how their hair responds to the products ,especially if you are trying to retail the product.
What's the hottest curly trend?
I think the hottest curly trend right now are the tight wavy beachy curls achieved with pin curls or the curling wand with and without the ombre coloring technique.
