How did you learn to cut curly hair?
No one could ever cut my 2B hair. I left out looking a mess everytime. I started to create my own styles, cut and colors and soon became the go to person in high school. I graduated from Pivot Point International, Chicago IL and very soon found out that other people were looking for someone to specialize in their hair texture. After 16 years of perfecting my skill in textured hair,I have become the immediate go to person for cutting curly hair.
What's your technique?
Depending on the style the client prefers to wear and how much he/she is looking to cut. Alot of my cutting techniques are done on dry hair. Dry Haircutting is my speciality on every texture. Sometimes preferably blown out(not straightened)on overly curly textures.
What products do you like best?
I love Kimble hair products for curly textures. Another all time fav is Mixed Chicks. Mizani is becoming a fav of mine as well with the Textures line.
Any advice for other stylists?
I always share with other stylists when I'm training or educating that consultations are KEY!! Consultations done properly will create the retention a stylist is looking for. Clients love the detail, concentration and listening the stylist does when they consult.
What's the hottest curly trend?
Creating the natural curl pattern, by using products, drying and detailing the curls with a small rod iron to give exceptional detail following up with shine serum spray to give the locks a beautiful sheen. Using a pic at the base of the scalp to create volume but not disturbing the curl pattern. I sometimes use curly clips ins to accentuate length or fullness in curl styles.
